calimer of the Last Man Standing project, a DOOM 3 multiplayer modification, sent in the following:
I’d like to give a huge welcome to two new coders whojoined the Last Man Standing team! Please welcomeIten and AO, who plan to help us get coop working! Asa note, we have learned recently that other coop modshave planned to not release their code to the public.I want to make it clear that we DO plan to release ourcode to the public. We think that it wouldn’t beright to withhold something that big from thecommunity and also figure that other people couldpossibly even make improvements to the code that wouldbenefit us. All that we would ever ask is to be givencredit for the code that was used and a link to ourwebpage.
calimer also mentioned that there are new map screenshots up as they continue to prepare for their initial beta:
In other news we have screenshots of Mercykiller’s newmap called Chambers of Misery. Check them out, it isan extremely intense map. As a note, these are justrough screenshots. The gameplay for it is essentiallydone but more work is going to go into the visualaspects of it. The map will be ready for the Betarelease.
Finally, the Beta is progressing quite nicely and wemainly trying to wrap things up before we puteverything together and test the hell out of it. Somenew developments on that are that Timbobsteve hasnew developments on that are that Timbobsteve hascompleted a nice end level setup, and that the newmenu is almost near completion. Also Beerman hasincreased the run speed to make the battles much moreintense. This Beta is shaping up into somethingreally fun to play. Check back soon for updates, theBeta release is coming up soon!

GarageGames’ Mark Frohnmayerannouncedtheir next title at the TribalWarforums earlier this month:
So we here at GarageGames are getting ready to release our next game, and Ithink it will appeal to some of you. It’s called Zap! – a 2D vector graphicsmultiplayer team action strategy game that plays like a cross between Robotronand Tribes with the graphical blend of Asteroids and Pac-Man. As a 2D game Zapcan be played with keyboard+mouse or (recommended) a dual-analog gamepad. Zaphas several game types, including CTF, Zone Control, Retrieve, Soccer, Huntersand Rabbit, and it supports familiar features like hierarchal V-menu chat andrecorded voice.
What we need is some help — we’re independent developers (now), which meansno access to big server farms, QA departments and beta testing groups. We’replanning on shipping on Tuesday, and we’d really like to do an open beta overthe weekend to turn up any last-minute bugs, as well as get player feedback. We’re going to be adding a lot of cool stuff to the game over the next fewmonths, so we hope you’ll give it a shot. Check http://www.zapthegame.com onFriday (12/10/04) for the beta build.
Also, we’d really be very grateful to anyone who is willing to host adedicated server through the launch time. We’ll have a dedicated linux serverexecutable, along with the regular Win32 and OS X builds.
Screenshots can be foundhere;also note that the current Linux download link at the Zap! homepage is broken, but the correct one is listed below. Moreover, controllers and voice recording are notsupported yet on Linux.

This quote from Anandtech’s new Linux 3D driver article sums it up:
The scope of today’s analysis is to run the older driver sets and compare them to the newer ones released last month. While we don’t expect miraculous gains in performance, we would like to see if some of the deficiencies that we have noted in past reviews are being corrected. We also will take a slightly revisited look at some 64-bit benchmark numbers from Unreal Tournament. Obviously, NVIDIA’s newest driver release doesn’t mean much if it only offers improvements on the 32-bit kernel.
Unfortunately today, we are not testing OSS drivers for these graphics cards. The OSS driver development is an excellent project, but the performance of these drivers in gaming situations is so poor – we even had difficulty getting Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory to run.
