December 6th, 2001 by Alkini

Digging through an old mail that Sam Lantinga sent to the SDL-announce list, I ran across ScummVM, an implementation of LucasArts’s SCUMM interpreter, used in games such as Monkey Island and Day Of The Tentacle. ScummVM is currently at version alpha-0.0.3, but regardless, it is possible to play some games in their entirety with it.

Tribes 2 SITREP

December 4th, 2001 by Crusader

Sierra’s Alex “Marweas” Rodbergposted onthe TribalWar forums to updateTribes 2 players on Sierra’s plans for the sci-fiteamplay-oriented game:

The upper management approved every plan we proposed. (w00t!)

While this is a great step forward, it’s all for naught until we can get a developer signed to do the work. We are in this process right now, which is why I cannot discuss who the developer is, or any specifics of the plan. I have stated before that the first step would be to issue a patch for T2 that addresses UE’s, the recent FPS loss some people experienced, and look at fixing things like the ELF.

Once the developer is signed, I’ll fill you in on more details. – Alex

Also, the venerable Panama Jack has released updated versions ofhis T2 scripts.

GLMame 0.92

December 3rd, 2001 by Crusader

Version 0.92 of GLMame,an OpenGL display driver forxmame has been released bySven Goethel. Changes:

  • clean up: glvec.c again
  • added 2 new options for vector games:
    • -[no]glantialiasvec, -[no]glaav , default true !
Enable/disable vector antialiasing (otherwise 16bpp opengl displays lookskinda bad ..)
    • -[no]gldrawbitmapvec, -[no]glbitmapv, default true
Enable/Disable the drawing of the bitmap only for vector games – speedup(remember, you can also toggle this via RALT-O)
  • added vector flickering ;-)
  • because of the buggy dirty-code, i recommend you use -nodirty for opengl as default ..
