Pandora: Community-Developed Console?

December 21st, 2007 by Crusader

The community project to develop an open source handheld console that we mentioned earlier this year is proceeding apace, and now sports a name, Pandora, a placeholder website with a concept rendering of the device, and a Wiki (thanks Engadget). The targeted specs:

  • ARM® Cortex™-A8 CPU running Linux
  • 800×480 4.3″ 16.7 million colours touchscreen LCD
  • OpenGL 2.0 compliant 3D hardware
  • Wifi 802.11b/g
  • Dual SDHC card slots
  • Dual Analogue and Digital gaming controls
  • 43 button QWERTY and numeric keypad
  • TV output
  • High Speed USB Host

There’s also discussion at GP32X.com, which is a site devoted to an existing Linux handheld game console, the GP2X.
