Yes, Blizzard, please release Starcraft 2 and it’s development-tools for Linux. You have released games for Mac OS. You can do it.

I will definitely buy the linux-release of Starcraft 2 if there is going to be one.

Well,
I think the petition was a little ‘all over the place’, so to speak. There are at least 3 different requests there:

- Linux installers
- Stipulation that the installer must be a .run file with CD detection (why not let them decide how they want to distribute their Linux binaries?)
- Open source the installer. (How does this enable BSD and Solaris users to play again?) Note that open-sourcing the installer kind of makes the ‘must have CD detection’ point moot. People who wish to copy the game would just modify the source of the installer.

I signed it, but I really think it would be more effective if it were a little more focused on one thing, namely just Linux installers.

I would love to have SC2 on linux but I don’t see that happening. Blizzard doesn’t need to foster any goodwill when they have a country of fanboys.

I dunno about you guys but if it works well with Wine I’ll probably still buy it. If it doesn’t work with wine I’ll pirate it. (Since playing it would require a reboot I’d only play the single player campaign anyway) Obviously if there was a linux version I’d buy it in a second, assuming I survived the shock of Blizzard making a linux client.
