Clonk Rage 4.96.1 Beta

May 26th, 2007 by Crusader

The developers of Clonk Rage, a 2D action-strategy game, let us know that it has been ported to Linux:

It features multiplayer battles or cooperative settlement in random generated or predefined landscapes with unique physics. Build your base, mine for resources, develop technology, or simply knock your opponent on the head. You will have trouble finding a game with more variety in gameplay. Check out the trailer video to get the best impression.

Clonk is fully editable. An integrated developer mode with a powerful and fully documented scripting language will leave nothing to be desired if you want to take things into your own and create your own game extensions as hundreds of community players have already done.

The developers state that they would like feedback on the new platform, which can be submitted at their forum. The game is shareware; registration gives access to add-ons and an online league.

    It’s amazing! What is it?

It looks like a well-drawn 2d side-scroller. It’s good more is being done to continue adding to the depth even though it is only 2D. Reminds me of all the great Super Nintendo titles that practically defined quality entertainment, by puting more detail in gameplay while still giving that depth buffer for the background ‘tropic scenery. I have a collection that I built for that “ultimate point-of-sale” linux box that could sit in a private company’s lounge. This is on it now.

I remember playing the original Clonk more than 10 years ago. The game was quite a lot of fun. A bit like Lemmings-meets-Worms. You control a bunch of stoneage people who beat each other up. With each level new game elements get introduced. The game was well drawn for a shareware game and quite funny actually to watch.
