If you use the CLI, then you just change to the installer directory and type "wine Setup.exe"

Or you can just double click Setup.exe with your mouse. You might need to tell your desktop of choice, to open application with "wine".

So, you don't need windows to install the games.

I find that HL2 and WINE-0.9.32 works well at 1024x768, but the shaders start to suffer when you use higher resolutions like 1600x1200.

I have tryed to use wine-0.9.34 and found that it works but performance was not there. But you can see the progress is getting along. Maybe wine-0.9.35 or 36 will be just right.

Sure many of the same games work under Wine but most of the time it will take sometimes up weeks if not months like it did for me to get Oblivion working under Wine. Cedega everything just works right away and you can still tweak all the settings you want to get better performance if that is your thing.

I subscribed to Cedega a while back, and everything I looked up on the internet about games all said 'it runs as well or better on wine'... wtf? Why bother then?

But now I've tried wine, and most everything doesn't run. I'm tempted to try Cedega 6 when it comes out, but I want to hear from real people whether or not it works, and Transgaming seems to somehow quiet the community about how poorly it works. Is it just hopefulness? Is it simply better than it was last year, and nobody wants to see it completely die?

I dunno, but so far it's just a HECK of a lot easier to reboot into Windows to play games.
