Speaking of open source drivers, there’s a project devoted to creating 3D drivers for NVIDIA graphics cards: Nouveau. There’s hardware documentation and a FAQ which mentions 2D rendering is now usable.

has anyone tested them? .. this is something else from the ‘nv’ or ‘nvidia’ driver right?
