UT2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3
BeyondUnreal posted news that Midway Games and Epic Games have announced Unreal Tournament 2007 will now be released as Unreal Tournament 3 (presumably UT2003 and UT2004 are counted together as “UT2″). BeyondUnreal also has a hands-on preview with impressions from a recent Midway press event.
UT3 utilizes Unreal Engine 3; favorable comments by Epic’s Mark Rein during E3 2005 (in the context of PS3 development) imply that Epic will be continuing it’s historical support for Linux with this title.

There’s also a HD trailer in Windows Media format, but mplayer has problems with the WM9 audio codec it uses here:

I’m hoping my “old” 7800GS AGP card ans AthlonXP 3200 will be able to cope with this. If not I’ll just cry and watch you guys play in xqf. Bitter bitter tears of inadequacy, don’t be cruel.

good: unreal engine always runs nice on old hardware. turn down the settings and you can play ut2004 on a geforce(1).
bad: still no unrealed for linux. w t f?

There were plans mentioned years ago to port the UE3 version of the editor, but since it was so long ago I don’t know if that’s still the case:

My money is in the bank already for UT3. And if Unreal 3 is in the works, then I’ll buy that too :)

The trailer from http://www.beyondunreal.com/daedalus/singlepost.php?id=10184 has no problems here with mplayer 1.0rc1 and the essential-codecs.
Thanks for linking, just some really short ingame-views but looks nice.

Why post about UT2007 or whatever Epic is calling it now? I think it’s pretty obvious with Unreal Anthology that Linux will no longer be supported. Hell, the original UT port is utterly broken, and Epic won’t fix it (yes, I’ve reported that and more to Epic, and was ignored then censored & banned when I tried to hold them to Rein’s false statements).

Did you ask to support a Linux build of the product? Many times, just the offer to cover the technical support issues of a Linux version is enough to build interest. To be on their Pay-roll in not the intent, given that technical or general support is simply a matter of outsourced labor; Yet, the relunctance to accept such an offer would be a question of intelectual property protection that they may usually quarrel upon, with an external technician financing the use of the property. Is this a self-defeating case of withdrawal? Oh well…

a) UT is over SEVEN years old. That’s like 49 in dog years. If you can find other companies that continue to support their games seven years after release, I’d like to hear about it.
b) UT is already supported (or rather, not very supported) by a community group — the UTPG project — with the blessing of Epic. Try complaining to them. Good luck getting them to fix it, though, since their one Linux programmer is — you guessed it — Ryan “Fixing Seven Year Old Games at the Demand of Cranky Forum Whiners Doesn’t Pay My Bills” Gordon.
AFAIK, Epic hasn’t committed for certain to a Linux client for UT3 (thank Jebus they’ve at least shortened the name), but they’ve alluded to it, and they have the best track record of Linux support for a AAA game developer, short of id Software.
I think there’s a pretty good chance we’ll get a Linux client. If not, well, I guess the money stays in the bank.

> a) UT is over SEVEN years old. That’s like 49 in dog years.
That doesn’t make Rein any less of a liar; the support stopped merely a year after UT’s release (last patch and bonus pack were released around that time, xmas 2000). “A track record of excellent post-release support” my arse. The community has been fixing Epic’s games on Windows, and no one cares enough on Linux (although that may change).

Blizzard. I could probably name more if I had the patience to look.
> b) UT is already supported (or rather, not very supported) by a community group — the UTPG project — with the blessing of Epic.
I’m not demanding anything from UTPG. I paid Epic money, and I expect the company to provide support. It doesn’t. Even for a product which was just released (Unreal Anthology).
> I think there’s a pretty good chance we’ll get a Linux client.
I doubt that very much, after seeing Epic completely ignore Linux gamers who purchased Unreal Anthology ON ITS OWN FORUM. Then Midway says “Unfortunately the Linux [installers are] not included on the Anthology. Midway do not support the Linux [versions] of the [games].” See this thread: http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=556876

err, few things..
Re:’linux-support-is-foobar’
a.k.a. We-no-pay-extra-for-you-foo
If you had read R. Gordon’s tales on his site, perhaps you’d have seen this coming for quite some time now.
Re:’publisher-is-a-jerk’
a.k.a. Midway vs. Atari
That’s what happens sometimes when an author changes publishers, (can be an indication of intent, but I have no inside infomation regarding this).
In hindsight though, free! ports to Linux from Icculus and iD Software have always been on par (often times better) as compared to commercially licensed versions (think Mac - example: Aspyr is weak).
You can only pray to your demigods that someone who actually *cares* as much as Ryan `The Flash’ Gordon about their own work, resultant product AND the impact on audience itself, even dare come your way, HEH

We all pay for Unreal (and mission packs), UT, UT2003, UT2004 nd run them on Linux. But now they want to cut their income in half by not supporting Linux. Does not make sense to me :(
