Quetoo 0.6.0
January 3rd, 2007 by MarvFans of Quake II might be interested in the new version of Quetoo, an enhanced Quake II engine. Major changes in this release includes:
- R1Q2 Protocol 35 support (client-side only).
- Integrated refresh and renderer core (relies on SDL). – This brings improved player movement and bandwidth savings to clients, while the latter simplifies the engine’s design and helps speed execution. Quetoo is now benchmarking up to 140% faster than the original game.

the readme at no point says how to actually start a game. A half hour at the quakeforge site also yielded nothing. Is this something that has been passed as tribal knowledge? Is there some “run”, “start”, “play”, or similar command inside the game? Very frustrating.

It is indeed tribal knowledge passed on from the first linux quake release.
just run the executable, if you get noting is because you didnt copied the quake pak file to it expected location. try /usr/local/games/quake2/baseq2 or check whit that quake2 fork’s doc on actual path use.
