lol @ apt-getters, I believe the poster was talking about the overwhelming choices and getting it to do what you want it to! Which if you’ve never actually compiled any of these nethack hacks, can be a hack in and of itself -9P

A comment on the blog mentions that the unstable version of Slash’EM does allow “./configure && make && make install”.

The fun thing about slashem is there are many patches to tweak the behaviour and such of the game. So if you don’t really care about patches “apt-get install slashem” is fine, but to properly install it from the source while applying a dozen patches… That becomes a bit harder and more complicated.

Why not just provide a separate install for the gui version? It seems like there are way too many changes to expect someone to do. Maybe I am just ignorant of what’s involved, but does it have to be this complicated? I was seriously not expecting anything more than ./configure && make && make install.

Yeah, I know. Typing “apt-get install slashem” was almost too hard for me too. Why couldn’t they just make a big button on the screen that said “click here to install slashem!”????
