TrueCombat: Elite 0.49 Public Beta

October 2nd, 2006 by micks

TrueCombat: Elite, a total conversion modification of the popular free-as-in-beer first person shooter Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, has recently released the public beta of version 0.49. The mod is set in modern-world environments (unlike the World War II-based W:ET) and concentrates on realistic player experience, which, along with some well-known game modes (the bomb-disarming “Objective”) and the fact that the game pits a “SpecOps” team against “Terrorists”, led some people to somewhat unjustified comparisons with Counter-Strike (TC:E is a game of its own rather than a CS clone). One of the interesting features is that the game requires the players to use iron sights on their weapons rather than crosshairs for added realism.

TC: Elite, developed by GrooveSix Studios and TeamTerminator, took more than a year to evolve from 0.48 to 0.49. The mod is available for Linux, Mac and Windows; you will need an installed copy of the latest version of W:ET to play (one way of installing is to place the unzipped mod in your W:ET game directory and running the et binary with the +set fs_game tcetest parameter).

This is a pain in the ass, why developers forced letterbox resolution not everybody have vide-screen monitors. They should leave choice to the users. Gamers should choose in what resolution they wanna play :/

The download link for the .run file leads to a page in french without any download link. Unpacking the zip file into the et directory and using the command line to start it works to get into the menu, but it cannot find any of the pk3 files when starting the game. Does anyone have a working download link for the linux installer?
