I got some scratchy sound in the beginning (I am using Fedora Core 6). Creating a .openalrc like recommended in the README did not help. Finally I removed the "lib" subdirectory in the coldwar installation directory, such that the system libraries are used and now the sound works perfectly.

I didn't really care for this game from the perspective of the demo. Then again I'm not into stealth games, I need at least some action in my games.

Great review Micks!

I have also really enjoyed Cold War. It's full of great gameplay, witty (though sometimes cliche) jokes, and a good graphics engine.

I urge all Linux gamers to give this one a shot. I feel that it's one of the better games to hit Linux. It's a unique take on the stealth action genre, and is a nice change from the FPS or strategy titles that we are used to seeing.

I don't see why using Transgaming amounts to "selling your soul". Yes, its not FOSS, but neither is Cold War. Yes, they used WINE code, but that was back when WINE was under the BSD license. If you aren't willing to live with the consequences of your chosen license, don't use it.

Other then that, great review. Keep up the good work!
