Hehe, you obviously haven’t tried the last couple of revision if you’re satisfied with how well they work on your r2xx.

…or maybe you consider it normal to have to use an older libGL and driver file with your newer driver.

…or maybe you have no idea what you’re talking about.

All in all there’s not much “positive” to say about ATI and Linux, never was, never will, deal with it!

didnt try this version yet, but looking at phoronis doom3 benchmark i guess it didnt get a big speed boost yet

as long as you keep away from glsl and similar new stuff, the performance is quite ok for the ati driver, but as soon as you begin using those nifty stuff framerates drop deeply underground in many important cases :(

…the ATI drivers get better every time. Installation was a no brainer. Performance is much higher than with my DRI drivers (which I also like) on an old 9200SE. Stability is also great. At work we use nvidia only, since we rely on cutting edge OpenGL extensions, but ATI is really getting good. It’s a good at-home solution. Haven’t checked the supported extensions, though, so maybe their not yet good enough for at-work stuff.

Someone had a rumor about ATI being bought by AMD. AMD isn’t so bad with Linux, maybe they’d actually set ATI straight.

absolutely agree with you here. If ATI ever pulls it together I’ll start buying their products in a heartbeart. They must have like 90% of the laptop market.

Linux users aren’t the only ones who get to enjoy that subpar ATI performance. There are still plenty of cases on windows where that happens as well.
