Linux 2.6.17
June 21st, 2006 by CrusaderVersion 2.6.17 of the ubiquitous Linux kernel was released recently; there’s discussion of the changelog up at Linux-Watch.
There was also a patch released (bringing it to 2.6.17.1) to fix a SCTP issue.
As always, you can probably upgrade via your distribution’s package management utilities; for those that don’t, the source code is available @kernel.org.

Of course, it could be to do with updateing or including new ideas. But I’d say that we need longer testing times before the final release.
PS: I have not wittness a system opps/crash yet. So I might have a mind set in the past or something.

That was done intentionally. They decided to temporarily focus on stabliizing version 2.6.16 bugs were piling up to some extent. The 2.6.16 branch stabilization was a “Good Thing” TM.
