NWN: Infinite Dungeons

Thanks to an anonymous reader for pointing out that Bioware has released a new premium module for their Dungeons and Dragons RPG Neverwinter Nights, Infinite Dungeons. The module is a departure from their previous effort, the story-driven Pirates of the Sword Coast, in that it boasts 20+ hours gameplay based largely on the randomly generated dungeons feature, similar to the classic roguelike NetHack.

The module is available for download now from the Bioware online store for $7.99; the Linux version is 212 MB. Infinite Dungeons requires a working internet connection for authentication, Neverwinter Nights, Shadows of Undrentide, Hordes of the Underdark and the latest 1.67 patch. There’s also a trailer and screenshots to help you decide whether the module is for you.

It was also just announced (in a somewhat dramatic manner) that this will be the last premium module for NWN1; likewise, it was subsequently reiterated that the next patch, v1.68, will be the last update for the now four-year old game. The next previously planned premium module, Wyvern Crown of Cormyr (which was being developed by the DLA team), will now be released for free at a later date. Furthermore, there’s still scores of user-created modules and other free content for the game.

I still play NWN with my friends and without NWN2 supporting Linux, I will continue to play NWN1 till something better comes out…

No thanks. If I pay for a module, it is not to have DRM, and also to be able to play on a laptop on holiday. And what will happend when it is not supported anymore ?

step 1) claim millions lost to pirates
step 2) stick DRM on a product
step 3) blame lack of sales on anything but DRM (after all we all like to have a network connection to play single player)
step 4) stop developement on a old product that doesn’t have DRM for the much newer DRM bloated product
step 5) blame pirates ad they close their doors

Atari is in financial trouble last I checked and NWN was their most sucessfull D&D licensed game, shy why not kill it and try for NWN2 (because sequals and better DX9/DX10 graphics = better game)

Hope NWN code doesn’t get lost in history, but released as GPL instead.

And I still haven’t finished the Neverwinter Nights. Not even got started with the modules :)

If this is the last patch coming out soon, are they still going to require authentication to their servers for all premium modules, and if so, how will you use them in the future when they no longer run those authentication servers?

probebly! … someone please tell me why the reply buttons are gone. This is ridiculous.

There was an issue with them that’s being resolved - I apologize for the inconvenience :(
