March 22nd, 2006 by CrusaderPhoronix has posted an update on NVIDIA’s upcoming Linux graphics driver revision:
Up to this point there has been very little official information from NVIDIA in regards to their upcoming Linux/Solaris/FreeBSD drivers. Luckily, we have had the privilege from NVIDIA to share our acquired information a bit early in regards to these upcoming drivers, and a few NVIDIA Linux developers frequently post some information on the NvNews forums. We have also had the luxury of handling the Beta 1.0-8751 drivers and deliver its results on multiple occasions. We continually post new information at Phoronix as it is discovered from our in-house investigations with these drivers, as well as tapping additional information from our various sources. We have more information to share today as well as pertaining to the now early April release.

Subject says it all. The article mentions that it runs on FC5, but does it support the extension needed for AIGLX?

AIGLX doesn’t “need” any extension. A composite manager will need support for GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap, but that can be provided by the X server.
The reason that NVIDIA drivers don’t work with “AIGLX” is because AIGLX has been merged into X.org CVS, which has a binary driver interface change. No binary drivers for X.org 7.0 and prior will work on X.org 7.1 and later without a few small tweaks.
It isn’t clear yet whether the next NVIDIA driver release will support X.org 7.1 or not. It would largely depend, of course, on whether that next release comes before or after the release of X.org 7.1.
