February 9th, 2006 by Marv

Version 8.22.5 of ATI’s display driver for 32-bit and 64-bit x86 Linux systems has been released. Changes in this release include:

  • ATI Proprietary Linux Driver now supports Linux Kernel 2.6.15.
  • Creating 22 or more display configuration mode lines in the X Server configuration file no longer results in a fatal server error.

As always, Phoronix went in more detail and has conducted a test.

  1. Says:

The driver still doesn’t support X.org 7.0 – which is the current version shipping with, e.g. Debian Sid.

ATI has always been a little behind, but how different is this, really?

  2. Says:

According to some posts on the Open Scene Graph forums, ATI has fixed a number of major OpenGL bugs in this release. Excellent news.

Honestly, I haven’t even been able to get Xorg 7 running stably on any of my machines, ATI or NVidia card considered. I think Xorg 7 has got some issues.

on Debian/Sid all you have to do is use the installer instead of prepackaged .debs. Even Suspend (S3 and swsusp2) works fine now on my machine. Powerplay support is great!

Sure, there are still lots of things to complain about, e.g. that powerplay settings are not remembered, but they’re on the right track.
