Works fine for me with my 9600pro, xorg 6.8.2 and kernel 2.6.15. There is a noticeable improvement in the shading on Quake 4. Seems more realistic now. There's life in my old video card yet!

Yet another inspiring example of the quality of non-free code, I take it.. after figuring out this release requires X.org 6.9 or 7.0, in direct contradiction of the release notes, I got the driver to load. It beeps on startup, and running any GL program including glxinfo makes the kernel complain about invalid operand 0000, and lock up in a somewhat odd manner. Exiting the X server doesn't work, neither does killing the GL program, and ps freezes completely as well. Shutdown becomes impossible.

I guess ATI thinks that if they put "2.0" in their GL_VERSION string, then it makes the drivers OpenGL 2.0. Do an 'objdump -T' on the libGL.so that comes with these drivers. Now grep the output for any core OpenGL 2.0 function (say, glStencilOpSeparate). They simply aren't there. You cannot write an OpenGL 2.0 application with these drivers. Support for ARB_shader_objects does not mean OpenGL 2.0. Hell, drivers they released a year ago are as much OpenGL 2.0 compliant as these. I'm sorry about this rant but I'm getting sick of ATI treating OpenGL like the retarded younger sibling you never thought you had because your parents kept it chained up in the basement.
