I was surprised by the multiplayer. It's quite nice.
I now understand that people whining about it are people already playing q3 and who don't want to change their habits. I can understand that, but trashing the game like some of them did was quite unfair. It's a nic epiece of work actually.

Well I'm glad they came out with a Linux demo so I could actually verify that it runs on my Pentium-M 1.86GHz laptop with GeForce Go 6600.
Seems to run well enough to play. Just wish there were more levels to sample :) I'm still undecided as to whether I want to buy this game, but the game play is definitely better than Doom 3 which I was a little dissapointed in (although that game does win the soil your pants category).

Had to switch to OSS audio to fix the completely unintelligible robotic sounding garbly noise coming out of my speakers. ALSA is such a nice audio driver architecture, its too bad so many programs get it wrong :( I hope this situation improves in the not too distant future. Anyways, thanks ID/Raven for the Linux demo, maybe include more levels next time. Not quite enough to get a feel for the game, and one would expect a little more considering the download size.

or at least it does once I dumped a 32bit copy of libSDL.so.0 into /usr/local/games/quake4-demo.

Plays nicely too, although I kept looking for a sprint key until I realised that always run is on by default...

Cheers,
Toby Haynes
