ATI 8.19.10 Linux Performance

With the release of the ATI Linux v8.19.10 display drivers earlier in the day, we have performed a driver comparison demonstrating ATI’s advances over the last couple of driver releases when it comes strictly to their frame-rate performance. The drivers used in this quorum are the v8.16.20, v8.18.6, v8.18.8, and the most recent v8.19.10 release. Not only has this most recent release offered improvements in the packaging support, but there is also a new feature for mobile users, which allows them to run their GPU at different power-stages to save on battery life while adjusting the processing power. Although the ATI v8.18.8 to v8.19.10 improvements aren’t as substantial when compared to NVIDIA’s targeted 1.0-7676 to 1.0-8XXX improvements, this latest release offers great benefits for those who have been concerned about running an ATI Linux setup to handle all of your gaming needs. Although the v8.19.10 were not accompanied by any frame-rate improvements, they bring fourth initial support for suspend and resume on supported Linux kernels as well as supporting FBO (Frame Buffer Objects) on fbl_glxgears.
1 fps improvment in doom3! oh, ATI you rock!

is that the OSS drivers suck less than the nvidia OSS drivers. Nvidia’s commercial drivers still own ATI’s butt though on any OS of your choosing.

This rule is still valid.
