I can actually see something interesting happening after Wine reaches 1.0 What if companies start targeting the Wine API (meaning, the portion of MS Windows APi that Wine imlpements) for development purposes? Or better, smaller companies, without VC infusions, using Linux/BSD/MacOSX for workstations, use Wine for their development platform (use Wine to run the dev tools, test builds, etc)? What could that mean for Microsoft?

If gradually developers began using wine, could it have potential to loosen Microsoft's hold on the market some? What would it mean if developers stopped using every wiz-bang feature MS provides and used only the common functions available in both Windows and Wine?
