America’s Army 2.5 Soon

October 14th, 2005 by Crusader

Version 2.5 of America’s Army was released for Windows yesterday; a reader pointed out this recent interview @ America’s Army Files with Pye, QA lead for AA, in which the status of the Linux client is mentioned:

Double-T:
Let’s not forget the Linux and Mac users, who can’t even play version 2.4 while we are desperately waiting for 2.5. We’ve seen that both versions are in beta testing, but could take a while before they are finished. Are there plans for the future to minimise the waiting for the Linux and Mac users or will the game always be ported over by Ryan Gordon after the release of the Windows version?

[Dev]Pye:
At this time we have no plans that I’m aware of to change the relationship with Ryan Gordon, he is the foremost expert in this field so I see no reason why we would try and change this. That isn’t to say that we wouldn’t like to streamline the process and get the Linux and Mac versions out quicker, and we’ve made some strides towards that goal during the 2.5 development cycle by improving our communications with him. That has met with some success, if the 2.5 Linux and Mac versions aren’t out the same day the Windows version goes live (and we think it will be possible) it will likely be only a matter of days afterwards before they are released.
