Legends

October 10th, 2005 by Crusader

A reader pointed out that we haven’t mentioned the Legends project in a while: Currently in open beta, Legends is a Tribes-inspired multiplayer FPS which utilizes GarageGames’ Torque Game Engine. It’s also noted that the next release should include vehicle support.

One of the reasons I stopped playing Tribes 2 (which is still an awesome game, btw) is because of the ancient openal it ships with. It sounds terrible on my Audigy with Alsa (crackles and pops and such). It sounds a whole hell of a lot better if I use Gentoo’s libopenal, but the stereo sound is reversed in-game (on a side note, the stereo sound is much more defined, just reversed).

Legends is a pretty faithful adaptation, but it definitely lacks vehicles.

    …can’t try it, no sources!

Also, had a bear of a time getting the torrent to work under both Firefox and Konqueror. Ended up downloading the .torrent file and loading it manually in Azureus. (The main BT client rejected the .torrent file outright.)

I tried firefox and links without success. I click download and a prompt comes up but the file never transfers.

Last time I played it was quite a while back (probably a year ago) and the engine was still pretty buggy and the networking code needed a lot of work. Have substantial improvements been made since?
