The QuakeCon site has beenupdated with information on the tournaments scheduled for the event this August:
DOOM 3 Deathmatch Championship
With the first appearance of DOOM 3 at QuakeCon 2004, last year’s tournament was wide open; none of the competitors had an opportunity to practice or learn the subtleties of the game. Now, players have had a full year to hone their skills and put them to the test in a 1-on-1 battle for $50,000 in cash. Inaugural QUAKE III Arena Ms. QuakeCon Championship
For the first time, QuakeCon will feature an all-female QUAKE III Arena Deathmatch tournament where some of the baddest female gamers will test their mettle in head-to-head combat for bragging rights and $30,000 in prize money. Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Championship
This 6-on-6 team competition will be the ultimate test of battlefield tactics, communication and teamwork. Online qualification rounds begin on Sunday June 19, and the top 16 teams will compete in a double elimination tournament at QuakeCon 2005 for their share of $50,000 in cash. QUAKE II Retro-Deathmatch Championship
For many hardcore gamers, QUAKE II is the game that sharpened their multiplayer skills to a razor’s edge. At the NVIDIA Championships at QuakeCon 2005, 128 players will frag, talk trash, and frag some more, fighting for a share of $20,000 in prize money.
Rules and more prize info can be found at the official site eventually. QuakeCon is an annual convention sponsored by id Software; this year it’s being held August 11-14 at the Gaylord Texan hotel in Grapevine, Texas.
