Renegades switching to Torque

March 22nd, 2005 by Crusader

Ralf let us know that RenWerx has announced that their Renegades mod will be switching from Tribes: Vengeance to GarageGames’ Torque engine:

We will be working with the Legends team to establish an amazing base, virtually redoing all the graphics and models that are currently there (along with various other additions), and then expand upon that to form the Next Generation of Renegades. Renegades will be 100% free to download once completed!

The developers have also posted a page listing their reasons for the change; there’s also a jobs page listing open positions on the project.

Would be to switch to legends and to develop it to a decent game. The tribes community has so been bashed by the vendors with broken patches / dev team firing / and a whole lot of really bad marketing decisions. But t2 and t1 both implemented features in the games, that are of yet unmatched.

It worked for Duke Nukem Forever, it’ll wor.. oh, wait….

(Come on, if I didn’t, somebody else would)

Tribes’ concepts are still unparalleled even 4 years after its latest release. So rich, so elegant, combats against capable enemies are almost like dancing. Heck, I haven’t even seen an online shooter that comes close to it.
I wish both teams, hence myself, the best of luck.

    About Legends.
I used to love the game, but it is very unstable on Linux.
Lots of segmentation faults specially related with sounds.
That and the fact not many people visitted the server made me give up for good.

I, of course, was the best unbeatable player ever there!!
Can’t wait to return and own you all :)

Please fix the segmentation faults pleeeeease
