Our comrade-in-arms Liberated Gamespointed out that Bungie hasfreely released the data files for their original first-person shooter series,Marathon. The source code forMarathon 2 was released some time ago; consequently, you can use Aleph One(downloads)to play these classic action games; note that you’ll need to use theM1A1conversion to play Marathon 1 with Aleph One.

    Bungie has freely released the data files for their original first-person shooter series

    I had to do some digging to discover that the data release appears to be free only in the sense that it doesn’t cost you anything, not in the sense that you are free to reuse the data components. In other words, free as in beer, not as in speech.
