Tux Football Reborn
Fans of Tux Football will be pleased with the rebirth of their 2D football game which follows an old style of play. This, in my opinion, should be called Tux Soccer as I am an American and follow a true football team.

No, see, football is all about hitting the ball with your foot. See, that’s why it’s called football. Foot. Ball. It’s not exactly rocket science.
Americans actually managed to get this wrong, however. Whoever decided to call a game of which the vast majority consists of running around with something that doesn’t even qualify as a ball (it isn’t round!) in their hands for football must have been on crack. He/she/it couldn’t even think of an original name for the game.
(No offense meant against americans, btw, I just find this amusing)

me thinks. :)
Whatever, there is a funny thing calling a rugby based game for football. I agree with the ‘Ha-’ post.

Go BEARS!
BTW: They got lucky tonight :-)

‘Soccer’ is such a better name for the sport than ‘Football’ though ;)!
Americans may not create it, but we improve it ;)!
Well, the way the rest the world writes their dates (dd/mm/yy or yy/mm/dd) is much better than how we do it. The guy/gal that decreed we write our dates mm/dd/yy must have been on crack…

Actually though, I am glad there is a sports game, soccer/football at that, coming out for Linux. I’ll be a customer.
Now if we can just get an EA FIFA port…

Marv: true football my friend is English football (it was invented here), i.e. played with the feet. If you want to pretend real football is ‘American football’ then that is your prerogative. I’m not sure that LinuxGames is a good outlet for your American supremacy, seeing as most of the people here appear to be Europeans. Personally, it is no concern of mine what you believe, just don’t post it on here please. We don’t want to be re-educated [no offense intended].

Points of order:
1. Soccer is an english word, from Brittain. It was first coined in the 1880s as a short for Assoc. The true name of what we call soccer is “Association Football.”
2. Football in the states is not simply named Football. ITs’ named “American Football.” The NFL refers to its rule book as “The National Football League Rules of American Football.” At one time, the rules were refered to as “The Rules of Americanized Football”
3. Rugby was at one time known as Union Football. This is why they shortened the abbreviation to Assoc. Sports pages would have “Union Football” , “Association Football” scores. They began to shorten it to “Union” and “Assoc”, and then later to Soccer.
So.. to sum it up.
Soccer is a British word.
Pointyball is American Football.
Soccer is Association Football.
Rugby is Union Football.
(And myself, I am a soccer/football referee :))

They need it to check the locale to determine the correct name. I believe it’s something like LC_SPORT or LC_ATHLETIC. It’s got to be in there. It too important. The POSIX guys wouldn’t have punted on it.
BTW. I’m glad you’ve found a true football team, but honestly. Compared to the Packers, even some basketball teams qualify as true foorball teams. :-P

Amazing people (from linuxgames that is) post news for anyone here at all when something as stupid as football/soccer naming convention comment results in no worthwhile comments on the Tux game. Rather than trying to prove your overwhelming elitest attitudes towards “proper” naming conventions for sports, why don’t you focus on more important things, like linux gaming.
This is called linuxgames.com for a reason…

People, get over it. (American) football is the most popular sport in America. Its name isn’t going to change here just because it isn’t suitable anymore. (The game has changed a lot since it was named in the 1800s).
BTW, Packers suck, the Vikings will win the NFC North.

football is called football, coz you play it with your feet. if us-peeps dunno where their feets are, that’s not the problem of the rest of the world.

Who cares what Marv wants to call the game? Every language and culture (except perhaps manufactured ones) have inconsistencies, irregularities and differences, so please just shut up about “football.”
