Cegeda 4.1, Point2Play 1.3.2

October 19th, 2004 by Crusader

Version 4.1 of TransGaming’s Wine fork Cedega has been released to subscribers (thanks linuX-gamers.net). The release notes mention Far Cry and Anarchy Online are now supported; moreover, there’s this notice:

Due to the release of the native linux client, DOOM 3 is no longer supported. Thismeans that while it will continue to work in its current state, we will not be providing support for it or putting any new work into it.

Additionally, Point2Play, Cedega’s GUI frontend, is now at version 1.3.2.

support linux in the way it ‘needs’ supported by playing ‘native linux games’. The only party that gets help by using cedega is transgaming. You have to pay per month to use the service so you should give money by ‘buying’ a linux native game ( of which there are many now so thats no longer an excuse ) instead, which shows your support for what ‘really matters’ to us linux users instead of windows ‘emulation’.

also remember this..native code runs faster..so really its a MOOT issue.

if you use linux just suck it up and use what native games exist thereby showing vendors we ARE here in numbers hence we’ll get ‘more games’ sooner than later.

wine/winex was ‘okay’ for the interim but now native games are here in far greater numbers so I hope linux users use them.

Its really cool that they keep boosting support for games that run with wine (not), I think cedega will never have any added value over wine (except for their closed source copyprotection crap) as long as the put their energy in annoucing support for games that already work because of the wine projects effort (opengl or dx7) instead of actually doing something to get direct3d (8/9) games running (only a handfull of direct3d games running after years of development doesnt cut it)

I don’t get why they announced support for a game(Doom3) that had always said would have a linux native setup. That’s kind of odd, yes?

I like Cedega. It lets me play games that I would otherwise not be able too. I hear a lot of people saying a lot of nonsense about Transgaming.. but they are simply full of shit. They might have tried out some of the cvs version of WineX, but frankly, the proper Cedge bins work very well for me. Not as good as native linux ports… but WHEN NATIVE PORTS DON’T EXIST THIS IS BETTER THEN NOTHING. Especially when my roomies are playing the newest shit and I’m not.

Also, if your into mmorpg’s… Cedega really is your only choice. People who don’t like Cedega should really just STFU about it becomes they never seem to have anything but trolls and FUD.

Really? This has got to be one of the asinine “causes” I have heard of…

“Native Linux games!” “Transgaming sucks!” … grow the f*ck up. How many people world-wide have a computer that can play current commerical games? How many of those people run Linux? Of those, how many have enough money to purchase the games? Did Loki break even on even one game?

If you don’t like Transgaming, then fine, don’t pay for it. My god, some of you are a bunch of whining little babies. Go buy from Tux Games and shut up.

Game developers seem to be progressing toward consoles and away from PCs. In the future, we could be lucky to have half the number of Window’s releases that we do now. Let alone getting them ported to Linux. Personally, I don’t think Linux, at least in this country in the near future (5yrs) will even have a 10% market share of HOME desktops.

If more commerical games were available for Linux, good, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. Why dont people here go more after the Indie-game developers? I see far more luck in getting those games ported than something from EA, or whoever.

An American company was about to replace toilette paper with an outstanding product, but recanted due discovery that its product was worse than the already existant already-used toilette paper.

Windows on Linux is insanity on stable ground.
