AnandTech DOOM 3 Benchmarks
October 15th, 2004 by CrusaderAnandTech has pitted the Linux version of DOOM 3 against the Windows build in a head-to-head matchup. Several NVIDIA cards were utilized on an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ box running Linux 2.6.8 and Windows XP; both framerate and image quality tests were conducted.

id software is doing the linux community a huge favor. I didn’t even like the demo that much, but I might well purchase doom III just because it runs on linux. this behavior by companies needs to be encouraged.
on my box, it runs better on linux because the only HD i have with windows is win98 — it doesn’t work at all on win98. :)

garbage
Did they bother to enable AA when using texture sharpening? Because it works here! It is so obvious, with it on it looks like LOD goes through the roof damn sweet.
Also, I posted elsewhere, but it is so, so very annoying when people (Especially large sites) do ‘Linux benchmarks’ and don’t even know what they are doing. wtf?
Hey guys let’s benchmark Linux using the most immature driver-hardware combo we can find – ok! The K8T800 Pro is not even supported by the NVidia drivers, and OBVIOUSLY the Linux kernel’s agpgart+northbridge driver combo SUCKS! Just wait for the next NVidia release with official support for this chipset, and use only the NVidia kernel driver is that so hard?
As far as AF not working on FX cards, say who? Says you, just because you do a suckhole review for a large website you can lie? Hey guy – I OWN AN FX! And guess what, it works fine here and can post or email shots to anybody.
After the obvious errors in their last review, I find it difficult to understand why anyone cares about this review.
Then again, I can understand how a newb can’t find out jack these days with all the zealots being pompass arses and not helping the newbs out heh.
I try not to be too harsh, but ’tis hard when one smells the stink of it all…
PS- No I’m not a PA, I just tell it like it is. Deal with it.
