Just a quick SITREP on the state of Wine:version 20040813 was released earlier this monthwith the requisite bugfixes and improvements.

Also, Cedega version 4.0.1 wasreleased forsubscribers. Changes include DOOM 3support, improvements for Morrowind, City of Heroes, and Valve’s Steam, andthe inclusion of Point2Play 1.3.1.
TransGaming also pointed out thisreviewof Cedega at LinuxLookup.
Finally, there was a report @ Slashdot concerning watermarks being includedin Cedega 4.0.1’s initial release, a practice which has been suspended for thetime being.

A company pointing out reviews of its products to a news website… how, uh, something.

The reviewer said he gave WineX a perfect score in his review because it was documented and did what Transgaming told him it would do. It’s funny that a product can get a perfect review on Linux because it provides documentation and works as advertised.
Aren’t these pretty much standard things to expect from commercial-quality software?! It seems to me that a perfect score should reflect something higher. Otherwise it’s a poor commentary on the state of Linux software. None of it is documented? None of it works as advertised?
Additionally, the reviewers tests were limited. WineX performed well for three game demos… one of which runs natively on Linux anyway. I’m not sure this is a sufficient test for the hardcore dual-booter considering purchasing WineX.
