If you don’t mind using GPLed media then WorldForge has a *lot* of soundfx just waiting to be used. Most are pretty generic but there are a couple which are game specific. Most of the clips are of high quality although you might have to do some volume normalization.

what does it mean to use gpl sound?
Do I have to give the source oggvorbis sample and any changes I make to it along with the executable?
