OSnews.com has posted areview of TransGaming Technologies’ newly-renamedWine-fork, Cedega (WineX 4.0).The reviewer tries City of Heroes (a superhero-themed MMORPG) and GrimFandango (one of the last Lucasarts adventure games).
LinuxWorld had their ownreview up as well (Google cache);Dark Age of Camelot (a fantasy MMORPG) and Diablo II (hack and slashaction-RPG) were tested. I’ve been unable to reach LinuxWorld’s site for thepast several hours, but there’s the link for whenever it comes back up.

Have to say, I think it’s a bit unfair to do a review of ANYTHING on Fedora Core. Not to say that winex would have had less problems on anything else, but the whole FC dist is packed with super-experimental and/or broken stuff … that’s kinda its raison d’etre. Ergo, a lousy review platform for anything.

You mean I can bankroll greedy developers(winex), support windows gaming and crush the hopes of linux game developers everywhere all at the same time?
Thanks Cedega!

Actually cedega runs CS:CZ much better on FC2-development than on Slackware in my experiance… I havn’t tried it on any other distros…(on both slackware and FC2 both were on 2.6 kernels)

‘cedega’ should imo only do ports of pre-existing games and set out to IMPROVE whats already there and actually ‘state’ that on their website and impress on gamers to buy native linux games..course then I guess thats not their reason for being is it..to further linux gaming but their OWN business agenda LOL..then again I guess their ‘entry’ into MAC GAMING whereby linux users are left HIGH AND DRY for such games is clear indication of WHERE THIS COMPANY IS GOING ..there are TONS of games out there that either aren’t working yet or need to be greatly refined to become playable.
…if not rest assured I will ALWAYS buy NATIVE LINUX GAMES because I prefer to:
1) Buy native games that always runs faster and more stable ( obviously ) and has direct support ( whereas with cedega you must ‘pay’ for more support on a given game to get it working ‘better’ or ‘at all’. ( unless that model has changed ? )
2) This alone and ONLY this will stimulate continued development of linux games from current vendors.
Linux gamers MUST come out in HUGE numbers and actually PLAY what games we do have that are native..this and ONLY this will send clear message to game developers that there is enough demand to reap a profit from designing for linux too.
cheers
