Cold War for Linux

June 5th, 2004 by Crusader

Tom’s Hardware has posted a preview of Mindware Studios’ third-person espionage thriller Cold War, which mentions the game will have a Linux port.

A quick check of their forum revealed this thread, in which Mindware’s Patrik Rak posted the following:

Windows and Linux are the currently supported platforms. I would prefer to have the game published on CDs including binaries for both platforms, however it’s possible the publisher might want to change this in some way because of the marketing reasons.

Between 500 and 1000 games will be sold….
I hope the Windows and Linux binaries will be on the same CD, otherwise I hope that Mindware Studios will cope with the annoying question “I have the Windows CD. Can I have the Linux binaries for free ?”

I hope the Linux version is up-to-date with the Windows developement, unlike the Never Winter Nights Linux client! Though BioWare has got $100+ from me because of the Linux version. Also, because I bough it, my friend (Windows user) also bought it, so I can safely say that if they had not made the Linux version, they would not have gotten our $200+. Now my friend is wanting to try Linux for gaming because NWN and UT2004 (similar story) is all he plays now.

    from the “cold war”-website:
“We are always looking for skilled and experienced programmers, artists and game designers.”

    and indeed:
game designers is what they need.
    i don’t like this “cold war”-settings anymore.
i dont like shooting “bad russians”, “bad germans” or “bad iraqis”…
for this kind of stuff noone needs a “game designer”.
    thats so boooring…
