I will pay. In fact I've payed.
Sure stuff Vivendi.
But I rather pay and have this game native to Linux.
Then not having it at all or going Cedega.

It seems everyone knows everyone in the Linux community. In an earlier thread, it was noted that the Loki guy's name was Sam Lantinga. Why not contact him and ask if he will make sure the game companies know they will not be sued if they give away or sell loki versions of their games?

This is great even if it's not released freely for linux users (because ppl like me already has the linux version), because the servers are currently not many and my favorite servers have closed down so hopefully there will be more servers when it's freely released.

The Torque engine happens to have MOST of the modifications that Loki might have made to Tribes2.

The Torque engine happens to be licensed for use with Windows, MacOS, and Linux.

So, how can Garage Games do that if there's "legal" issues?

Furthermore, if it's legit for GG to release the engine, how hard would it be for VU to allow someone to produce a "new" iteration of T2 for Linux using the engine and the game code they have?

I smell a run-around here.

The reason for not releasing the Linux version is probably due to the way Loki licensed the games. In order to give the game publishers a no-risk situation, Loki would license the game from the publisher and do all of the porting and support themselves. (I was one of the support guys.) The Linux versions of the games were then separate products sold independently by Loki.

This arrangement made it easier for Loki to get publishers to agree to allow a port, but it meant that the original publisher did not have distribution rights for the Linux version. Back then, that meant no Linux version in the same box with the Windows/Mac versions. Now, it means no free giveaway of the Linux version either.
