ScummVM 0.6.0

March 16th, 2004 by jvm

We just received word that version 0.6.0 of the graphical game interpreter ScummVM has been released. This Free software allows you to play LucasArts/LucasFilm graphical adventures like the Monkey Island series, Maniac Mansion, and Full Throttle on various platforms, including Windows 2000/XP, the BSD operating systems (including MacOS X), PocketPC handhelds, the Sega Dreamcast, and of course Linux.

This release represents a milestone in ScummVM development, since all LucasArts/LucasFilm SCUMM-based games are now being supported. Furthermore, the classic adventure game ‘Flight of the Amazon Queen’ (by Steve Stamatiadis and John Passfield) is being released as freeware simultaneously with ScummVM 0.6.0.

New features and fixes in this release include (but are not limited to):

  • Dramatic sound and music improvements
  • An improved management and option interface
  • Two new graphics modes
  • Support for: the classic V1 versions of the original LucasArts SCUMM games Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken; Full Throttle; Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; and Flight of the Amazon Queen.

Except in the case of the freeware games, you’ll need the original game discs to play anything. You can, for example, grab several games from the LucasArts store.

Nice, I really like this project :)
I wonder if they’ll work on some of the old Westwood adventures – if it’s posible at all..? Would love to play Legend of Kyrandia and Hand of Fate again!

    Anyway, thank you scummvm-guys!

I really hope to see that game working under scumm. So far the Residual subproject seems to be stalled, but maybe in a far future… in a galaxy far far away… :)

Nevertheless, thanks for the great work so far \o/
