    WHAT HAVE YOU DONE????????

  2. Cybrid Says:

    The pain! The pain!!!!

  3. chunky Says:

When the site is no longer quite as eye-clawingly ugly?

A little more contrast between foreground and background would be good, but all-in-all, it’s massively improved.

    Thanks,
    Gary (-;

  4. Cerb Says:

At least there’s still a link to exciting titles like mhockey on the left! Can’t wait till that puppy is complete. Sure they haven’t updated their page since the Clinton administration, but I’m sure they’re hard at work cranking out that much needed Linux-native sport sim! Keep up the good work!

  5. Says:

    The goggles, they do nothing!!!

  6. Says:

A little drab for my taste and the empty strip of blue across the top I could do without.

  7. Says:

Quite a massive shift into the boring. If you were wanting the site to feel like 99% of all the other “newsy” sites out there, while looking like it’s fresh out of some php-nuke box, well … you’ve succeeded.

Personally, I _greatly_ prefer the old look. I think the graphics and color schemes are vastly superior with the old look.

  8. Says:

Much Improved, I hated the old brown.

  9. Says:

    Looks good to me.

  10. Says:

You gonna get the RSS feed back?

  11. Says:

Sorry, I did’nt care for the brown too much I actually liked the old green colored site. Something really needs to been done. It does look like some the generic themes over php-nuke!

  12. Says:

What happened to the good revolutionary sentiment? Has linux gaming sold out to the man? Double plus ungood!

  13. Cerb Says:

    GONE! Because of ME! nooooooooooooooooooooOO!!!!

    Still waiting for mhockey

  14. Says:

Is it possible to integrate the banner at the top of the page into that huge useless blue strip, or has that already been done? The reason I ask is that there’s a big-ass flash banner above the blue strip for me in Firebird 0.7.

Besides that annoying thing, I do like the layout. It could be a little darker, though, because I feel like my eyes are on fire. And not in a good way.

  15. pwk Says:

On my Konqueror it tries to download some file (i think the advertisment ?)…

  16. Says:

… WTF is my search box?

The “Archived News” link is there, but that’s not as handy as a search box.

  17. Says:

    * The fonts are too small
    * It’s too bright
    * It’s boring to look at

  18. zborgerd Says:

I think that it looks pretty good, actually. It’s got a few minor quirks, but I’m sure it will work out.

  19. paines Says:

I like it. Blue and white makes a pretty color combination.

    Regards

  20. Says:

Well, this incarnation of Linuxgames looks just like some arbitrary CMS-Site. The last one wasn’t great, either, but at least had some character (even if it was bad). I liked the one before that most.

Well, just wanted to say that.

  21. Says:

It’s not bad. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the old design; Linuxgames.com’s problems for quite a while have mainly been usability and content.

  22. Says:

    # cat /dev/linuxgames > /dev/eyes
    Segmentation Fault

  23. sinister13 Says:

The new design is definitely suck compared to the previous one :-( I think LG needs something like a configurable theme manager. So, the people who likes the previous design, will get it again :-)

  24. flapper Says:

at least it’s not as bad as linuxgamepublishing.com

it’s like opening up a box of lucky stars breakfast cereal only to find that someone’s stolen all the sugary bits leaving the bland, unsatisfying bits of corn.

  25. Says:

It sure has been a lot of work. Well, at least it looks like it. Congrats.

  26. bobcat Says:

    haha.

The jesters here really have a field day when you make a change don’t they?

To be honest I never really liked the last color scheme. But I also hate sheer white almost as much. Why not reverse this, make the white background your new baby blue, and the text white? It’s be softer all around, and my monitor would not make that crackling sound when I load the page full screen.

  27. Says:

Background colour isn’t defined. What is probably supposed to be white is coloured in maroon, due to my browser’s default settings.

  28. Says:

It looks like crap on Mozilla 1.5.

  29. rafaMEX Says:

this looks more capitalist, i liked the previous commie theme

  30. Says:

    ugh

  31. Says:

Nice layout, nice color scheme. I love it!
    Konqueror 3.1.4 with KDE 3.1.4

  32. Says:

    just a litle bit boring…

  33. Hirnfuhler Says:

    I love this theme.
I use Mozilla-Firebird 0.7. Looks great. Thanx for eyecandy. :)

  34. kccricket Says:

If you don’t like the new style, maybe you should blame the person that designed it?:

    “design by negative”
    http://www.digi-dial.com/

  35. Says:

I also find this theme a bit too bright and fonts too small, but on the other hand the left-menus are easier to see now.

  36. Says:

The old site had was more style (I liked it) but this is more user-friendly. I like the nested block display of replies.
Now just simplify the links. WTF is “Reply with History”?

  37. Says:

have so many damn changes in webpage style.. and yet have them all be sooo damn ugly.

  38. Says:

It looks like you started well with the menu’s and the colours used there. But from then on, frankly, it’s gone to shit. It’s boring to look at, and doesn’t render correctly in mozilla (1.6)

Having had a look at digi-dial.com, I get the impression that negative is either just the db guy there, or is too busy to spend the time creating a good design for linuxgames.com.

    Hmmm, anyway, thats my 2c

  39. rumagent Says:

Much better than the old layout!

  40. pandarsson Says:

I like this. It’s cleaner, easier to read and much faster than the previous incarnation.[br][br]As far as the whin… er, constructive criticism goes, how about offering alternative stylesheets? There aren’t enough sites using those. You could even have some of these wiseacres submit their own and choose a few to add in as alternates. Simple as that unless someone wants to add some graphic. All major Linux web browsers (Mozilla, Konqueror, Opera) can handle that sort of thing, so why be limited?

  41. blacksheep Says:

What about of not allowing Anonymous Users?
Really, a Portuguese Slashdot-like has made that about a year ago, ppl critizised it a lot, but the fact is that currently there are not some stupid flames and besides a lot of users that already visited the website have registered and so made the comunity stronger.

    Cheers,
    Ricardo

  42. Says:

Signature font is bigger than the font used for the comment itself, and moreover it’s bright-blue ! This should be made smaller dark-blue.

  43. hawk Says:

I must say I preferred the old look. :(

The old one was much easier on the eyes, it also didn’t scream generic-boring-news-site at the top of its lungs…

  44. Says:

I love it! Simple and clean design.

  45. trashcan Says:

But the white is kinda of hard on my eyes.

  46. Says:

More like molded… it needs to go back the way it was… easier to read and I liked the little id and tux crosses at the top… This looks horrible and is hard on the eyes.

  47. zealotasd Says:

Any website that uses unnecessary HTML that could *crush* an older or non-updated webbrowser such as Dillo (dill.sourceforge.net) or Netscape 4, perhaps shouldn’t be used. I thought HTML was better thought of as being a document format and not a programming language. Dillo is a webbrowser that is designed to be small and fast; great for PDA’s. For as long as I can remember, Linuxgames.com crashes ye olde Netscape 4.x web browser. I don’t like Netscape 4.x, but it was included in many good olde Linux distributions and is good tribute despite its flaws. (who am I kidding, Netscape 4.x stinks!) The Linuxgames.com title-banner has a good touch to it, but the comments seem too spaced-out. The white background isn’t good on my eyes either and neither is helpful to extend the life of a CRT computer monitor. I liked the previous colors of the forum and think this one’s banner and quick link tab to the left side of the page looks good. I don’t know if anyone remembers the olde LINUXQUAKE.COM forums, but I liked how those were made: you had to click on a posted “subject” to receive the comment and it was verry-well nested and quick to update and load in the browser despite it being just a giant monolithic forum that was not segregated or moderated. Somewhat Off-Topic: why is Linuxquake.com abandoned, and has anyone ever tried to contact “Pestilence” or “Void” et al if they would fancy some Linuxgames.com refugees update their website?

I’ve been visiting Linuxquake.com and Linuxgames.com as far back as the year 1998, posting through a different STRAW-MAN of’course. I even still have my first peice of eMail when I ordered my first Linux from eBay: RedHat 5.2, for USD $3.00.

    In-cae Dillo doesn’t HTML FROM-SUBMIT correctly,

It could use a little work but it’s far and away better than the old turd of a website.

  49. Says:

    Good job.

  50. bobcat Says:

Thanks. This new change to a grey content panel really works. Much better than the sheer white.

  51. Hrothgar Says:

First, this theme is much better than the old one, which was too dark and “scary” IMHO. The new one could use the following enhancements:

    1) With a large screen res, the “Comments” link doesn’t work well in the bottom right of the story area. Either put the link up in the title area or right justify it.
    2) Center the top banner add.
    3) The banner add at the top totally jacks up the look of the top of the page. Looks like it was put there as an afterthought. For starters, consider making the background blue around it so it blends in with the LG title bar. If you’re feeling fiesty, you might see if you can create a background image for the banner ad area that would align itself to the bottom right of the box and show the beginnings of the “rays” from the LG logo. It may not be possible, but thought I’d throw it out there.

Note: I’m using Mozilla Firebird 0.7
