Wolfenstein – Enemy Territory Source Code

January 28th, 2004 by Marv

The source code for Wolfenstein – Enemy Territory, a free multiplayer FPS, has been released. This code can used to create mods only and is not the full game engine code. Sadly, they have distributed this as an Windows executable only.

As I type this, I’m trying to download it. After I download WET_Source.exe, it will be shared through Gnutella on a DSL connection. If anyone desires a possibly faster download and diminished wait, rather than aproach 3ddownloads.com, just use Gnutella.

Until I download, host and then view the source; does anyone know how much x86 dependant code is in the tree? Does anyone know the License it is released upon?

(http://www.icculus.org) Does anyone know if Icculus (RG) received this news? Does anyone know if the Tenebrae2 Development Team received this news? (http://tenebrae2.sf.net)

I’ll post answers to my own questions when I wget my hands on the source.

Anonther opensource FPS in the bag…

to see if they actually added the assorted .sh’s/makefiles to build the thing under linux? heard rumours that they haven’t, even tho ET itself uses .dll/.so’s and not .qvm’s (it probably still supports .qvm’s tho)

There’s a FreeBSD port for it that runs in Linux emulation mode. It looks like the complete game but it’s a multiplayer networked game only (no bots when running it in server mode)
