Massive Changes at LG, Crowds Rejoice
January 27th, 2004 by jvmAs some of you may have noticed, there have been some changes behind the scenes here at LinuxGames. Among the things that I know have been fixed:
- The site now renders more appropriately at antediluvian resolutions like 800×600.
- Comment threading has been made more sane.
- Login profiles can now be updated. You can now change all those clever 1999-era signatures that have lost their comic punch.
The most important feature, however, is the Submit News link over on the left sidebar. This is intended to streamline our news posting process, and hopefully will generate more news posts for you, the information-starved Linux-gaming public. In a nutshell, you can now submit news items semi-directly to our news system, we’ll edit up the newsworthy posts to make them presentable, and then they’ll be posted to the front page. It’s very swank and modern.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled kvetching. Oh, and thanks to Marv, our ever-present task master, for making all these wonderful changes.

What is all that blank space at the right? I don’t know how noticable it is at lower resolutions (since its in percent) but at 1600×1200 maximized its like a few hundred pixels that news could be used in.

Hey, now. Some of us run our browsers at 800×600 despite having a screen resolution of 1600×1200 (and a second screen with another 1024×1280). Personally, I like to avoid overlapping windows, and with two code windows, three folders, a shell, two IM windows and a buddy list on the screen I just barely have room for that 800×600 browser as it is! (And most of the time I use that spot for viewing documentation…)

The ad at the top still makes the pages too wide for a smaller display, ie. 800×600. It would be a trivial fix, simply position the stinkin’ ad so that it is not to the right of the left-side navigation bar.

I noticed that a few weeks ago the mynetscape.pl RDF generator died and never came back up. Any plans to restore it?
