June 9th, 2003 by AlkiniJon Shiring from S2Games wrote in late last week to announce three news items regarding their upcoming “Real-Time Strategy Shooter,” Savage:
First, we’ll be going to Beta Stage 3 next week, adding another 2000testers. People should go sign up at beta.s2games.com if theyhaven’t yet.Second, if you pre-order Savage, you will get a reserved spot on thebeta: www.s2games.com/savage/pre-order
Finally, there was a newsforge article this week that gave Savage BestGame at E3 : newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/06/02/118256&mode=thread&tid=8
Jon’s “next week” target for “Beta Stage 3″ is actually this week, so we’ll keep you updated as we hear more news.

I wanted to sign up for Beta Tests but Linux is not mentionned on the available OS. Even Win Server 2003 is here, not Linux
That is not a good sign

I sure hope ‘no one’ buys/pre-orders this without slothy’s/s2′s verification that not only we ‘are’ getting the linux port PLUS that they WILL be adding it to the website and that it WILL state ‘on the box’ that linux is inside and supported.
if not then I agree its just not fair to linux gaming to expect big ‘turnouts’ of linux fans without adequate advertising.
I as most..will buy the game and shout it from the roof tops ‘with’ proper respect for the linux community. They must know we all are very happy they have done this crossplatform apparantly so I flat do not understand why they can’t give proper credit to us everwhere else.
…slothy/s2 I think you should comment.

Actually even though you’ve flamed us all over these forums without asking for a response from us, I replied to your other angry message on our Savage forums.
The reason Linux is not listed on the beta signup form is because we recently moved over to letting Homelan run that for us, and they didn’t list Linux on their standard beta signup form. Had someone emailed me earlier, I would have asked them to add Linux to the list, as I have done so.
As others have said, the current beta has a Linux client. The presale boxes in stores say on them: “Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP or Linux” on them. We say in our FAQ that Linux will be supported out-of-the-box hopefully. Our FAQ has never retracted on that issue.
Frankly, take your high horse and your childish attitude and don’t embarass well-meaning game companies in public again without at least emailing them to ask if your assumptions are correct. (Search for Jon Shiring on google, really, you won’t have a hard time finding my email address).

I believe it would in best interest of linux gaming community to disallow anonymous posting to comments section. This whole debarkle of one troll versus game publisher who wishes good to whole community has really gotten out of hand. Please, prevent one person from ruining image of all gamers.[br]
I hate signing up for comments as much as next guy, but this is really starting to hurt us, gamers. When there is no proper moderation of comments to stories, I feel that many people get upset and feel reluctant to work and benefit our relatively small community.[br]
Please, look into making moderation possible, I would be grateful and I hope more people will support me on that.
