Savage Update: To be Sold in Retail Box

April 15th, 2003 by Alkini

As we previously announced, S2 Games has ported (in-house) their upcoming title Savage, which claims to be a “Real-Time Strategy Shooter.” Now, our friend StarTux wrote in to point out that he asked about the Linux client in the S2 forums. In reply to his post, S2Slothy(Jon), an S2 staff member, stated that he’s going to make sure that the Linux binary is on the CD and in the box when the game is releasedand that the presale promotional Savage box does list Linux as a supported platorm.

There is also another thread in whichJon writes that they (S2) will likely not offer tech support for the game, but the game is running well under Linux and that he justimplimented anti-aliasing and windowed/fullscreen toggling.

I can’t find any information on the beta testing, but I suspect that it hasn’t begun yet,so feel free to visit the previous URL and sign up if you would like to help out.

I was trying to remember which game I signed up for to do a beta test. This answers it!

Cool stuff. A game engine that works under Linux means more potential games.

We began the beta program about a month and a half ago, and we’ve been slowly growing up to about 150 right now. After the next patch, we’re going to be going up to 1000 testers in the next week.

    btw about those library problems
it would be nice if you could provide a statically and dynamically linked binary like Loki did with some of their games.

Firstly, I am very impressed with S2′s presence in our flamebait filled forums. 8) Good stuff imo. Secondly, the game looks like it may be interesting (been signed up for the beta for months. :P ) and am very glad to see another company producing in-the-box functionality. Slowly, our library grows… }:>

WineX 3 is out…go get it if you subscribe.

Has anyone used the Point2Play frontend?

(If you hate WineX, good for you. Yes, I’ve heard the arguments. No, I’m not going to comment on them as that horse has been reduced to a big red spot.)
