TuxGames Out of SMAC; Low on Others
March 18th, 2003 by AlkiniA few people pointed out this news from Tux Games at the end of February regarding their remaining inventory of Loki games:
Despite our best efforts to continue to obtain the now discontinued Loki titles, finally the inevitable has happened and one of the Loki titles will no longer be available from our store. Alpha Centauri has now been discontinued. For anyone that is still missing a few of the Loki titles to complete their collection, we still have a few of the rest in stock, but they wont last forever. Come and get them whilst you can!
A few of the top-selling / favorite Loki titles at TG:

If you didn’t get a copy — too bad for you!

After playing for some while, occasionally the “currently active” unit ceases to blink. This makes it tough to identify which unit to move. It must be some condition that causes it, because it can be fine for hours, and then it just manifests.[br]
The workaround is just to save, quit to the main menu, and reload. Otherwise it doesn’t seem to crash or anything. Fun game, I’m glad I bought a copy.

because SMAC is a really good game. It’s probably the best game that Loki ported, so I dont want to hear any smack about it.

does that mean, how many ex sold for those games _not_ listed?
Always interesting to hear about the sales numbers.

Come back Loki!

Kohan is one of the smoother linux games I’ve played. It works very well and is quite fun. The multiplayer doesn’t work with the Windows folks because the patching halted at 1.31 I believe. And so it doesn’t talk properly with clients above that. So, there you have it.

I start getting all nauseous and shit, I can’t sleep, and I feel like I’d do anything just to get a little bit more. If TuxGames is all out of smack, I’d watch out for them, because I know better than anyone what a person without their smack is capable of.
Oh, Alpha Centauri. Nevermind.

Can they negotiate with Firaxis to be able to distribute more SMAC? I can see it being a royal
nightmare to try and get all permission to distribute Loki games since Loki is bankrupt, but
I would expect there must be some company that can give permission to distribute SMAC.

If the Linux versions are no longer available, will the binaries then be classifiable as legal abandonware for people owning windblows versions of the games, but not the Loki versions?

When trying to launch smac with xfree 4.3, I get a “frequency over range” message on a black screen from the monitor. It works for tribes2, though.
Anyone get smac to work with xfree 4.3 or know what I’m doing wrong? I have:
HorizSync 30-97
VertRefresh 50-120
which should be fine for a viewsonic GS790.
