I threw some autoconf at it and the Makefiles are working. I have about 30 source files compiled perfectly, but i keep running into little blockers as below.

The simhq.com forums register seems to be broken. It isn't sending the password out via email. So I can't talk with the other people hacking on this code. Extremely frustrating.

Here's an example:

http://home.y3m.net/horde/chora/co.php?r=1.1&f=eech/aphavoc/source/appsound/atc_data.c
http://home.y3m.net/horde/chora/co.php?r=1.1&f=eech/aphavoc/source/appsound/atc_data.h

Appears to be missing the start/finish of that definition, no? Some of the files are broken in this way and I'd like to know why. I don't want to waste my time here..

it's probably not going to be the 2-day-to-working-port job of rise of the triad, but a couple of people from the #icculus.org crowd are starting work on porting this. (making decent makefiles, starting to look at header substitution/functional replacements, etc.)

unfortunately, it uses both d3d and directplay, so unless they release a port for windows as well as linux using a different net api (there are some around that are similar in api afaik, but i don't know how complete they are), there won't be cross-platform playing.

We're all so attached to the GPL that we don't seem to remember that licenses other than BSD and GPL might be worth using. Put it this way: if all game developers were to do this, would the Linux gaming scene improve rapidly? Damn straight, it most certainly would.

This is a case where everyone wins - the Linux crowd gets their game, and the developers get some free work in return. Seems like a decent deal, especially when we see growth in the number of people capable of doing ports (seems like icculus does 'em all, and while that's nice, we need other people, too).

The click-through is no big deal - I know I wouldn't hesitate.

This game is the best heli sim I've ever played. About a month ago I was still playing it under win98 but I upgraded to xppro and now i experience gfx problems.

I would really like to see this under Linux as in my opinion it's a classic in it's genre and still looks the part today. Also ultimately playable and has the best realtime war simulator going.

Comanche Hokum followed on from Apache Havoc, and in fact if you had Apache Havoc installed you could fly all of the helis and play all the missions in Comanche Hokum.

My reading of the license leads me to this interpretation:

- All redistribution needs to include LICENSE.TXT and ensure that the downloaders have agreed to it.
- No one can profit from this (except RazorWorks)
- RazorWorks reserves the right to include your changes to the source in any future releases of their products.
- You cannot hinder anyone else's ability to modify the source (IE source code must be available if you make any modifications).

All in all not a real hassle, the only big problem is the clickthrough thing the license seems to require.

I just played Apache vs. Havoc, but both Sims are very similar. Now with the sorce code we should be able to make a decent multiplatform hardcore Heli sim. That's just great news
