NeverWinter Nights Linux Client Update
February 1st, 2003 by MarvYou knew it was coming and here it is: The weekly update on the status of the NeverWinter Nights Linux Client
Aside from the mind-numbing bug fixing process, we have started testing the Linux client on various boxes around the office. We are getting mixed results, but our spirits remain high. And did we mention we’re still fixing bugs? *sigh*

or someone from Bioware with a flashlight coming down to tell us the client has been delayed again.

You have to admire the one monkey at Bioware that’s still hacking away at this. It would be all to easy for them to say, “Fuck it! If you’re all gonna bitch like this over us supporting a non-viable gaming platform, we’ll take our client and go home!”
It’s as close to a MMORPG client as Linux is ever likely to see anyway. What I wouldn’t give for a Star Wars Galaxies or Everquest 2 client !

they’re working on it; can we all just settle down? I mean, the AvP port has been in development since mid 2001 and yet nobody is complaining about THAT!

I wonder if they did install linux on the other machines in the office, maybe the mixed result comes from that they have windows still installed on them.

for those of you who feel the need to bitch out BioWare every chance you get, just shut up already.
read Ryan Gordon’s news updates and finger info at icculus.org, and you’ll see that Loki had a lovely time replacing Miles Audio with OpenAL code back in their day, and BioWare had the SAME PROBLEMS. Now there is a Miles port, and yeah, sure, they *could* have looked into it more, but things happen like that. Yeah, they *could* have started off using OpenAL, but they didn’t. Live with it. Be happy that they are actually still bothering with the port, after all the childish insults they’ve received both online in forums such as this and their own, as well as through emails, I would imagine.
