To all who whined about a server-but-no-client port of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (*cough*dan*cough*), here’s some news for you…
On day two of LWCE, the icculus.org guys have announced their secondsurprise: they have a native MoH:AA client running in Linux. There’s no news on the specific plans to release this to the public. Flame away.

Maybe TransGaming will back off on their pre-announement stating this is one of their active targets for WineX 3.0. If not, then they are backing off of their promises to not undercut the native game arena (something they’re already tacitly doing by hosting forums for winex with RTCW, Quake3, and other games with native ports).

Just bought ut2003 and regret it,i played it and got bored running back and forth, I have 3d shooters coming out of my ears, allready purchased the serious sam series as it stands out because of its excellent coop multiplayer and waves of impossible waves of enemies ( the niece and nephew are gaga over it :), and.. unlike any other shooter out there im actually looking forward to number 3 in the series. Wont be looking at this one at all.
All the same kudo’s to this guy he’s doing a lot for the linux gaming world indeed, way to go buddy.
Gimme, gimme some decent multiplayer racing games
( i don’t need a big gun i can live with the fact of having a small d**k :)

…but I sure would like a native BF1942 client!

This would be an excellent port and another game that TG is supposedly working on. Having this one native too would probably really hurt TG’s release of WineX3

I know I’m guilty of being an ass about the server only port, but this really brightens my day. I’m also impressed that EA is considering linux client ports. This is good.
Thanks to Icculus and Co.

Is there going to be a separate Linux release, or is this going to be downloadable for the Windows game? Personally, I’d much rather have it as a downloadable as I can get the game for about $20-30 nowadays. Another thing, is the Spearhead expansion supported?

From the looks of it, icculus ported the client on the side, but EA didn’t request it (my guess). Since it’s done, perhaps EA will let them release the linux binaries (and I’ll buy the game!), but maybe they will have some silly legal reason not to let it be released..
Regardless, it’s exciting news, congrats to the icculus.org crew.

The icculus.org crew is completely insane.. ROTT in 24 hours, and now they ported the client side of MOHAA.. Madness!

I don’t want to spoil your excitement at all of these nice commercial clients appearing, but are you aware that M$ are busy buying up game developers and companies who own development houses? Apparently they are buying Vivendi who own Valve and Blizzard. And what platforms do you think M$ games are gonna exclusively run on?

YES! WOO HOO!
One of my favorite Windows FPS games *EVER* may be getting a Linux client. This is the single game that I had trouble leaving Windows for.
No, I don’t dual boot! I’m stubborn. But this is EXCELLENT! Icculus- you’re my freakin’ hero!

Thank you so much for making Linux gaming rock. Soon as I’m employed, or get my tax refund, you’re getting a donation.
This is fucking awesome. Keep it up.

It seems that porting games to Linux is speeding up, given more experience gained from earlier projects; if only someone purchased Loki assets and….

At this rate a BF1942 client wouldn’t be terribly surprising… :)
