icculus.org @ LWCE
January 14th, 2003 by AlkiniRepresentatives from icculus.org will be exhibitors at this year’s LinuxWorld Conference & Expo. They will be there January 22-24 and you can find them in booth #9 by Xiph.Org and Gentoo. Rumor has it that there will be a nice pyDDR setup and they will be showing off various i.o games in addition to some commercial things that Ryan Gordon has ported. They’ve also promised to have a few surprises.
Do you have any ideas for anything else you’d like to see them showcase? Post ‘em below.

Cannot wait :).
A Whole week to wait, almost as bad as waiting for the NWN update.
Is it a commercial surprise? :).

I have a question, why is http://www.linuxworldexpo.com on IIS servers. The history on netcraft show occasional Linux, so I guess they have a farm rotation.
But the fact remains, they are using Windows and IIS. If anything its bad image.

How about a preview build of Serious Sam Gold for Linux :)

it’s maybe gonna be half-life with their new mod cs going to a new type of release this month as well…

Maybe its EverQuest or EverQuest 2 fully ported over?
Well EQ2 is not out yet. C’mon Sony, you’ve been pretty good to Linux thus far and seeing that they have ported to everything but Linux its about time that they did!

it’s Half-Life.

Its got to be DirectX.
Seriously though, would you purchase a Linux game if there was a Linux version of DirectX? It would be really good for the Linux game market if DX was ported to Linux, maybe not good for OSS/FS though. I bet SDL/OpenGL/OpenAL would really take a nose dive in usage if DirectX was around (I didn’t say not used just a sharp drop in usage). Even more so if EAX was ported.

Since he is a programmer, he will be showcasing either Pizza, Beer, or both. The surprise is that the pizza will NOT have peperoni on it. Oh wait, it was asked what we would like to see showcased. Hmm, how about me drinking beer. For Free. Yeah. That’d Rock. And a new Linux game or two would be kewl as well.

I’d bet that would be it.

I know this is possibly the worst possible thread to ask this question in, but forgive me – it’s the first one on the page.
Has anyone tried any of the Kohans from Transgaming? I’m thinking of picking up Kohan, but I’m really unsure if I want to buy the unsupported native version versus the supported semi-native version. Any reviews of TG Kohan would be good.
I don’t particularly like the idea of buying from TG, but a linux game sale is a linux game sale, really, regardless of whether Tux Games sells it.
Just to redeem myself, I’d like to point out that I ran out and bought Serious Sam the first day I could when I saw the Linux port, and am the proud owner of a bunch of Loki games. I also frequent Icculus a lot, and love the ROTT port (good work, guys!).

New York is way too far away for me, so what were the surprises?
