then “cat” the files together..
ie.
cat ROTT12R._1 ROTT12R._2, ROTT12R._3 > rott.zip
then just unzip them..

I grabbed the shareware, and if you install it in Windows, it’ll decompress the appropriate files for you. At that point, just copy the wad and .rt* files into the rott directory. It works fine.

About my only complaint is that the screen is really small at 1280×1024 – some sort of way to go into fullscreen mode would be appreciated.

did you guys notice the shareware download page says:
“Rise of the Triad Shareware Data for Lunix”

C64s were cool, but I don’t think they can run ROTT.

I just booted to a DOS disk, and tried to install ROTT onto a FAT partition. Guess what happens when I run INSTALL.EXE? That’s right:
Runtime error 200 at 06D1:0091

I also just tried replacing my INSTALL.EXE with the INSTALL.EXE from the shareware version. No luck, it only works with the shareware data files.

This is really pissing me off!!! I’m not going to fucking install DOS 5.0, or fucking HIMEM or EMM386 or fucking whatever ancient shit this executable requires just to get these stupid fucking data files!

“file ROTT12R._1″ just says:

I’ve always wondered this, but how come the companies that release the source of the game to the public, don’t release the data as well?

It’s not like the company is making any money off the game anymore.

do a file on at least ROTT12R._1, maybe it’s a split up zip or lha archive (probably not in this case…)

why don’t you boot into DOS with a boot disk and install it somewhere, then copy it off to your Linux partition? it’s not like it makes registry entries or anything.

Now I just have to figure out how to get the data files off of the floppies. The data is in files named ROTT12R._1, ROTT12R._2, … ROTT12R._5. I have no idea how they’re compressed.

I just tried to run install.exe under Win98 in vmware so it can uncompress the data. It says:
Runtime error 200 at 06D1:0091.

Lovely. Blargh. Guess I’ll see if I can figure it out tomorrow.
