Neverwinter Nights Client News
November 30th, 2002 by JudeccaBioware has updated their Neverwinternights Linux client page again:
[Nov 29 2002] Linux development this week has been focused primarily on audio. We have found that sound in general has been taking longer than we had hoped, but such is development. Progress is being made, and we will continue working on the sound until all the remaining issues are resolved.
Well, at least they’re keeping us informed.

And the audio is likely been tied closely to DSound, which wasn’t too bright for client cross-platform compatability.

Everyone I know got bored of NWN after a few weeks/months… It’s just too late to release the linux client now, the momentum is gone, this game seems to have very little lasting appeal.

I really thought the delay would mean that tehy would have finshed the client now, its still fall, so they have approx. 3 weeks to finsh it or they will violate yet another promise, if they statted the client development before releasing the win32 version they would probably have a client ready at this time, and if the hadn’t lied (with intent) to their linux customers there would not have been so much critism..hopefully they learn something from their mistake on mistake, but I seriously doubt that people will believe them again when they will make new promises

This is a reminder for folk wanting advice on porting DirectSound (or any api) over to OpenAL: Please feel free to request help on the openal mailing list or drop by either #creative or #openal on irc.freenode.net.
