NeverWinter Nights Linux Client Update Part 1

October 25th, 2002 by Marv

Another update today from the offical NeverWinter Nights: Linux Client page. This time the subject is ‘Mouse wheel support’.

Mouse wheel support is an interesting issue right now. Support for the wheel varies on different distributions of Linux. In the end, we want the mouse wheel to work for all users. Also, we have made progress on music and sound effects. The current audio developments are starting to add to the immersive experience of the Linux Client. And since we can’t give you a screenshot of sound, we have some screenshots of Fire Giants for your fear and trembling.

*blinks* Tell them to compile it into the kernel and to get on with life. Sheesh. Please.. please tell me this doesn’t mean mouse wheel support (which is already shaky and odd in linux) is a showstopper. This had BETTER not be a critical bug. I don’t even use my mouse wheel in WINDOWS! Why would I use it in LINUX? Why is this a showstopper! *WHIMPER!*

This is almost becomming comical. If I didn’t know this porting effort was for real I would think this is a running joke.

“Support for the wheel varies on different distributions of Linux” … WHAT ?
Err, I dont see any difference in any distributions witht he way the mousewheel works. just bind the 4 & 5 buttons and voila !
that looks very suspicious to me…

This guy.. and it’s of course one guy, should be doing stand up comedy. I think this guy’s the new Cosmo Kramer of programming. Please someone, just put him outta his misery. It’s like watching a train wreck in loopback mode.

i dont have a windows installed on my system…
would the game have a installer that would install from the game discs(e.g ut2k3) or would i have to copy files from a windir (e.g rtcw, nwn server)?

I think everyone needs to calm down. Just be happy they are porting it especially in house. This is the first time they have done this and are obviously having trouble. Let’s be encouragin and support them. At least they are giving us regular updates. If we support them and all goes well, maybe they’ll port their next game to linux, and maybe this time they’ll learn from their mistakes and start out cross platform : )
