Purely speculation and uneducated (since I do not have the games in question) but,

1. Both "versions" of KIS are for sale. Non-SAE KIS is $10 less, but there does not seem a way to patch it to the latest version. The two versions of KIS are not network-compatible with each other.

2. Download-only.

3. They list the downloads as being 300mb in size. This means that they most likely did not include the movies and music. While these can be considered excess, it still means that you are not buying the full game.

4. These will be incompatible with the already-existing Linux port of KIS.

Questions:
1. Are these clients compatible with the Windows versions?

2. Are these "ports" yet another wine hack?

Basically teh complaint should go against the commercial gaming software developers who seem to not have enough foresight to actually try to write teh game to be cross platform from scratch, or have a developer on staff who spends 1/4 time dealing with multi platform issues. Sad, it would save the gaming companies time in the long run, esp since all the diff compilers catch different errors.

I love Kohan and still play it. I appreciate Timegates efforts and plight, but I think I'm gonna stick to spending my money on native ports.

Why:
I subscribed to Wine X to play Counterstrike, only to be banned from servers for cheating (falsely idenitfied due to me running under Wine X). It's been months since this problem started (it does this to all Linux CS players). Now my subscription has lapsed and I'll never be able to play CS in Linux now, even though my money is gone.

I'm going to avoid throwing good money after bad. Doom III, NWN, UT 2003 (hoping) will all get my dollars.

I just purchased the download and in the installation instructions they stated that they would download an "executeable specially tuned to my system". This smacks of the same scam our friends at Microsoft are running. I change hardware, software, distro's on a regular basis. To keep from compromising my games, I always have them loaded on a separate drive. Then I just remount it after the latest install. I wonder why they did not address this in their press release.
