Is the RADEON T&L routine hardware or software based?

For now you can install the firegl 8800 rpm and 3d will work. You can get those on ati’s site. Just “find a driver” . DRI work for the 8500 is ramping up and things are underway but I don’t think it’s very useful right now. But give it a month and it should be better to test things. You can get nightly binaries from http://dri.sourceforge.net/snapshots/ . I don’t think the radeon packages have the r200 stuff in there. They’ll probably be r200 packages in bleeding edge when development is further along. They’re easy to install with ./setup.sh and it installs everything and compiles the drm and installs that. If something goes wrong you can revert to what you had previously with ./setup.sh restore.

I’m using the GATOS drivers, so I can’t use TCL anyways. But I’m looking forward to them when GATOS eventually merges to XF86 4.3.0.
I’ll be a little happier when its comparing well, speed-wise, to a GF2 MX. It’s just _embarassing_ that my AIW Radeon DDR is slower, when it should be quite a bit faster, at least in terms of hardware.
